At the Aalo-X excavation at Idaho National Laboratory, Bauer Foundations installed the soldier-pile shoring. Pacific Foundation was subcontracted to design and install the ring-beam waler system that braced the excavation through successive lifts.

Scope of Work

Because of the walers’ size, weight, and thickness, Pacific fabricated the steel sections on site. Foreman Ryan Stewart led the placement sequence. A Mantis 70-ton crane lowered each waler into the shored pit, where the crew set, aligned, and welded it before moving to the next lift.

Site Constraints

Large, heavy waler sections required on-site fabrication and controlled crane handling within the shored excavation. The work was sequenced around each lift rather than installed as a single prefabricated assembly.

This condition affects access, sequencing, and field coordination for the project scope. Pacific Foundation accounts for these constraints when planning equipment movement, crew access, work-area controls, and coordination with adjacent construction activity.
