Synagro’s Sand Island project in Honolulu expands biosolids treatment at the Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant. The work supports new digestion, storage, and process improvements intended to increase treatment efficiency and improve long-term handling of wastewater byproducts. Because the plant sits on a dense industrial site with existing utilities and operating infrastructure, subsurface construction has to be carefully planned and sequenced. Pacific Foundation performed jet grouting for the Sand Island biosolids upgrade, using vertical and battered jet grout elements to treat ground around an existing utility on the constrained wastewater treatment plant site. The work required careful treatment geometry, drill alignment, grout delivery, spoil handling, and sequencing around existing infrastructure.
