Method Overview

Drilling and Grout in a Single Stroke

Auger cast piles—also called continuous flight auger (CFA) or augered cast-in-place (ACIP) piles—are formed with a hollow-stem continuous flight auger. Concrete or grout is pumped through the stem as the auger withdraws, and reinforcement is placed while the material is fresh. The method supports fast, repeatable installation with low vibration and no conventional open borehole.

CFA installation depends on soil conditions, auger tooling, working-platform capacity, spoil handling, pump location, material continuity, reinforcement timing, and access. Pacific reviews those controls before production starts.

Auger Cast Pile Planning Questions

How do CFA and auger cast relate?

CFA describes the continuous flight auger installation method. Auger cast or augered cast-in-place describes the pile formed as concrete or grout is placed during auger withdrawal.

When does Pacific recommend auger cast piles?

Pacific recommends CFA when the project needs repeated drilled elements, reduced vibration, and production installation without an unsupported open hole. The ground still has to support continuous drilling and placement.

What conditions can make CFA a poor fit?

Dense gravel, cobbles, obstructions, difficult reinforcement, interrupted material supply, or access that prevents steady production can push the work toward another foundation method.

Can CFA be used for shoring?

Yes. CFA-installed soldier piles can be used for excavation support when the design, ground conditions, access, and installation sequence support the method.
