ODOT Foothills Rd Corridor

Client: Knife River
Scope of Work: Drilled Shafts, Soldier Piles
Project Year: 2024

The ODOT Foothills Road Improvement Project in Medford, Oregon, focuses on upgrading a four-mile section of road to enhance safety and accommodate increasing traffic. Key features include lane expansions, new bike lanes, and sidewalks to improve accessibility.

Pacific Foundation’s scope on the ODOT Foothills Road Improvement Project includes the installation of soldier piles to support the construction of a sound wall.  This process requires drilling to a specific depth determined by geotechnical analysis, followed by setting steel H-piles vertically in pre-bored shafts. Concrete is then poured around each pile to form a stable foundation, ensuring structural integrity and alignment. The piles are installed at calculated intervals to resist lateral soil pressures, effectively supporting the sound wall’s weight and mitigating vibration impact from adjacent traffic.

The Project

The ODOT Foothills Road improvement in Medford, OR focuses on a 4-mile section of Foothills Rd and aims to enhance safety, reduce road noise and improve accessibility.

The Solution

Using a Bauer BG33H, Pacific Foundation is drilling 30″ shafts, and setting solider piles (to tight 1/4″ tolerances) for the sound wall panels.

The Result

Upon completion, the Foothills Road Improvement Project will enhance traffic flow, safety, and accessibility, featuring expanded lanes, bike lanes, and sidewalks. The new sound wall significantly reduce traffic noise for nearby residents.
